Census Prosecutions Morally Wrong

Libertarianz member and former candidate Nikolas Haden will appear in court on Wednesday to defend himself against charges brought by Statistics New Zealand in relation to last year's census.

This court appearance is the result of the moral stand the Libertarianz party has taken against the compulsory acquisition of census information by the Government. "It is a shocking indictment on the state of our society that political protesters who have harmed nothing and nobody can be hauled before the court in this manner," Mr Haden said. "I am to be tried because I have exercised my right to freedom of thought and freedom of expression by opposing an immoral law. We believe every individual has the right to form whatever opinions he chooses, and to express those opinions, including by way of silence."

Libertarianz is the only party which has consistently stood for individual rights and freedoms and is supporting Mr Haden as he takes on the Government on these grounds.

Mr Haden appears in the Wellington District Court at 1.45 pm on Wednesday.
