A 15 year old male charged with the murder of 77 year old Birkdale widow Doreen REED, has today been remanded in custody after an appearance in the North Shore Youth Court.
The youth has been placed in secure custody at a Youth Justice Residential Centre and he will make a further court appearance on 14 February 2007.
Police launched a homicide enquiry last Sunday [14 January 2007] after the deceased's body was discovered by friends, inside her Eskdale Road home in the suburb of Birkdale.
Police investigations are continuing and information is still being sought from the public.
No decision's been made yet on when the body of the deceased will be released for burial.
