Young Workers Get Their Big Mac
“Young McDonalds workers getting organised in the Unite Union for movement on youth rates have set an example for others
to follow,” CTU president Ross Wilson said.
“Unite Union’s SuperSizeMyPay.com has been leading the charge this year in the campaign to abolish youth rates both
politically and on worksites.”
“Yesterday’s announcement is another important step in this campaign, and Burger King will need to now follow suit.”
“Unions and young workers will continue to campaign over summer in support of Sue Bradford’s members’ bill to abolish
youth minimum rates. But companies don’t need to wait till the law tells them to move on youth rates – they can follow
Unite’s leadership with the fast food industry and get rid of them now.”
"McDonalds movement on youth rates builds on Unite’s other negotiations with fast food companies, and the agreements
reached between BP Oil and the EPMU and Postie Plus and the NDU to end youth rates," Ross Wilson said.
