Chris Cairns now to undertake walk in October 2007
Chris Cairns has moved the walk he was going to undertake in February 2007 to October 2007 following the reccurrence of a knee injury.
Chris recently announced his intention to walk from Auckland to Rolleston near Christchurch in memory of his sister Louise who was killed in a train crash there in 1993. The aim being to raise funds on the walk to promote rail safety and awareness.
Chris has been in training for the walk and a problem that occurred in his knee back in 2003 before the World Cup, has come back to hinder his training and preparation. By moving the walk to October this will allow him time to get specialist treatment and ensure he is in peak fitness.
Earl Spencer is joining Chris Cairns and Toll NZ for a major fund raising dinner to launch the Chris Cairns Foundation in Auckland on February 17 and all involved are delighted at the interest shown to date.
The walk from Auckland to Rolleston was going to start on Monday 19 February, but this will now be held in October 2007 with a start date yet to be announced.
Chris says he wants to thank everyone who has offered to be involved with the walk and is sure everyone will understand his desire to undertake this when he is fully fit, as he is very determined about completing it.
Chris says he is delighted to hear that level crossing accidents in New Zealand are currently running at a 20-year low and he wants to thank everyone who has supported rail safety since he became involved earlier this year.
