Ministry publishes occasional papers


The Ministry of Economic Development today released the first in a series of occasional papers, as a contribution to economic debate. The papers have been produced by the Ministry as part of its policy development process.

The papers reflect the views of their various authors, and not necessarily the views of the Ministry or the Government.

The reports cover a range of subjects, including:

- water allocation;

- the effects of agglomeration on economic productivity;

- the public policy framework for the New Zealand innovation system; and

- whether New Zealand’s small size affects its national research and development funding and patenting use.

Ministry chief economist Roger Procter said the Ministry undertakes in-depth analysis of aspects of the New Zealand economy relevant to policy as part of its role as one of the Government’s main economic advice agencies. The Ministry intends to publish occasional papers from time-to-time, as policy relevant work of broader interest is completed.
