Another Heinous Israeli Massacre of Innocents

Another Heinous Israeli Massacre of Innocent Civilians

The Palestine Human Rights Campaign (PHRC) deplores the latest Israeli atrocity in Gaza which resulted in the death of 19 civilians, including seven children and eight women. Ten of the victims were from the same family. All the dead had been asleep in their beds when Israeli tank fire hit their homes in Beit Hanoun. Since then another twenty have been killed by Israeli military action in the Gaza Strip.

It should be no surprise that Hamas has called off its unilateral ceasefire and now intends to retaliate. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas condemned the “terrible massacre” saying: "You (the Israelis) do not want peace at all. You have destroyed all chances of peace and you should bear all the responsibility.”

PHRC spokesperson Tuma Hazou believes that “it is the responsibility of the International Community to stop Israel’s daily butchery of Palestinians. “Israel must be required to accept an international peace-keeping force to be stationed in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank for the protection of the Palestinians.” Such a force would also protect Israeli civilians from Palestinian home-made missiles as does the a similar force in Southern Lebanon.

Since Israel’s 'withdrawal' from the Gaza Strip on August 20, 2005, up to November 9, 2006 Israel has killed 752 Palestinians and wounded 4060.

The Palestine Human Rights Campaign calls upon all who care for peace and human decency everywhere – including especially, those who consider themselves friends of Israel, to protest and condemn the policy of merciless violence which has characterised the actions of the Israeli leadership.
