TVNZ Union Members To Escalate Industrial Action

Union members at TVNZ vote to escalate industrial action starting tonight

Union members from the PSA and the EPMU have voted to escalate industrial action at TVNZ, they have walked off the job for four hours from 9pm-1am tonight.

“It is simply not good enough that TVNZ refuses to offer their staff a fair deal. Union members voted to escalate the strike action so TVNZ is left in no doubt that we are committed to a fair deal,” said Brenden Sheehan, PSA organiser at TVNZ.

“TVNZ needs to show its workers and viewers some respect by offering a fair deal now to stop further strike action.”

Union advocates today approached TVNZ to try and resolve the dispute but TVNZ refused to improve its offer.

“The unions are committed to resolving this dispute, it’s a pity the same can’t be said about TVNZ,” said Andrew Little, EPMU National Secretary.

The unions are seeking a 5 percent pay increase and additional annual leave. TVNZ is offering a 2.25 percent pay increase and no additional annual leave.

Union members are located in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch and are presenters, producers, administrators, camera people and involved in technical support and scheduling.
