Downsides In Flexibility Law


Employers and employees already have the ability to negotiate flexible working hours and there is no need for a flexibility law, says Early Childhood Council CEO Sue Thorne.

“Our members are very aware that good employment relations includes being responsive to staff needs.

“Flexible working hours have been a feature of the female dominated early childhood sector for many years.

“There is the danger that a law requiring flexibility could in fact make workplaces less flexible for some. Early requests for flexibility could be successful at the expense of later employee requests.

“Commonsense and fairness would suggest that flexible working hours is best left for individual workplaces to agree on,” said Sue Thorne.
