Constitutional Crisis
The Republic of New Zealand Party has called on the Government to resign so that the people of New Zealand can elect a
legitimate government
The Party’s spokesman for constitutional affairs, Wayne Hawkins, said legislation validating unlawful spending during
the last General Elections to legitimise a shonky election result, shows that the Labour Party and its coalition
partners are unfit to govern.
“They have lost the moral authority to govern. How can they continue to legislate when they have shown they no have
respect for the law or the will of the people,” he asked
According to Mr Hawkins, the government should now be considered illegitimate.
“It shows more than ever that New Zealand needs a written Constitution to safeguard the rights of the people.”
If we had a Constitution the offenders would have been prosecuted in the Supreme Court by now and new elections called.
That in our view would be, democracy the way it should be.
