Choir of Ugandan AIDS orphans to tour New Zealand
The world renowned Watoto Children's Choir is to travel the North Island - beginning with a performance in Auckland this weekend as part of their TEAR Fund Concerts of Hope Tour.
Watoto's concerts are a soulful blend of native African rhythms, contemporary gospel music and ethnic dance. All orphans of Uganda's AIDS epidemic, and the nation's war in the north, the choir now travel the world to raise awareness of Africa's AIDS crisis, and of solutions to the suffering.
"Throughout Watoto's Concert of Hope, you will experience the energy, radiant smiles and sense the joy these beautiful Ugandan orphans have found," says TEAR Fund Promotions Manager Andrew Robinson.
The choir has performed for enthusiastic audiences, foreign dignities, prime ministers and presidents alike.
Concerts are free with donations accepted at the end of the performance. All proceeds go to TEAR Fund's work taking parentless children off the streets of Uganda and placing them in caring, secure foster homes.
What: The Watoto Children's Choir When: Saturday, 16 September, 7.00pm Where: Auckland City Elim, 74 Cook Street, Auckland
