Snaily has been forcibly removed from the West Coast Conservancy office in Hokitika. Graham Jury, 22, an ecology student, was chained in a 1.5m snail suit to the Department of Conservation offices. He was forcibly removed by the police with bolt cutters at approximately 11.30.
Other Coalition activists personally delivered demands to Mike Slater and fellow DOC staff, requesting the immediate release of the 415+ Powelliphanta "Augustus" snails being kept in ice cream containers in the fridge in their offices. They demanded that Solid Energy be refused permission to hunt and kill kiwi at Stockton mine. The demands were given to Slater in icecream containers, in addition to verbally delivered.
Snaily has been seen in Cuba Mall and Auckland and is committed to saving its family - and species - from extinction.
