Maori Party Position on 90 Day Bill Supported

Maori Party Position on Rejecting 90 Days Bill Welcomed by CTU Runanga

The Maori Party have today announced that they will not be supporting National’s 90 Days employment Bill any further.

“Hone Harawira announced to Te Runanga O Nga Kaimahi Maori – CTU Runanga today that the Maori Party have completed their analysis of the submissions on the Bill and will not be voting for it any further.”

“The CTU Runanga has been working with the Maori Party and others since this Bill was introduced, and we acknowledge the decision they have now arrived at – to reject this Bill.”

“The Runanga absolutely agrees with the Maori Party that Maori unemployment is still too high,” said Sharon Clair. “We have consistently advocated for a values based approach that builds on investing in Maori, rather than exposing Maori workers to unfair sacking."

“Casual insecure work is not what’s best for Maori workers, we need security in employment and security in our working rights. This Bill was threatening to take away that security.”

Ends.
