Seriously Injured Man Transported from Unimog Accident Near Blenheim
The Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to a serious accident involving an Army Unimog this afternoon.
The helicopter, with a Wellington Free Ambulance Paramedic onboard was called to the Weld Pass, between Blenheim and Seddon, where a Unimog vehicle had rolled down a 150 foot bank.
Initial reports reported two seriously injured people at the scene but one had died prior to our arrival.
The other man, an 18 year old, was being treated by Wairau Hospital Ambulance staff about 1/2 way down the bank, when the helicopter arrived. Police, fire, ambulance and army personnel were all on the scene.
After he was stabilised the man was winched into the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and brought to a landing site where he was treated further before being transported to Wellington Hospital Emergency Department.
The man is suffering from multiple injuries including possible spinal damage.
The helicopter was called to the scene just before 3pm and had the man back in Wellington Hospital at 4:02 pm.
