Workers and boobs rally coincidence

Workers and boobs rally coincidence out of the blue

The union organising the 23 August rally against National Party legislation that would remove employment rights in the first 90 days of a new job says the Boobs on Bike parade, timed to coincide with the rally, has come out of the blue.

The major cross-union rally, which will be held in Aotea Square will be passed by the Queen Street parade around lunch time.

The Engineering, Printing & Manufacturing Union, which has ordered over 60 buses to transport its members to the rally, says it will not be distracted.

“The only boobs we will be focusing on are the ones promoting this legislation – Don Brash and Wayne Mapp,” union national secretary Andrew Little said.

“This law, if it is passed, will unashamedly strip workers of basic rights at one of the most vulnerable times in their working life, when they start a new job,” Mr Little said.

“We described this law some months ago as a naked attack on workers’ rights by the National Party, and so it remains.”

The rally will start at 12:30pm and run for an hour. Members of the public are welcome to attend. It’s expected all unionists will stay fully clothed.
