Winston Peters given emergency immunisations

As Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peter recovers from his tropical illness - thought to be the result of a spider bite he received in Malaysia - he has been given a swathe of emergency immunisations.

The immunisations will guard against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, measles and tuberculosis; however, they will be received by a child in an Indian slum through a TEAR Fund programme. Mr. Peters himself has been given an immunisations "card". The immunisations card is part of TEAR Fund's alternative gift catalogue.

"We are delighted to hear Winston Peters has been discharged from hospital and is recovering. His scare serves to highlight the plight of the 3000 children throughout the developing world who die each day from diseases that could be easily prevented by vaccination," says TEAR Fund Executive Director Stephen Tollestrup.

"We have sent Mr. Peters an immunisations get well card, and we wish him a speedy recovery."
