Get involved with DOC planning - new how-to guide
Enhancing public participation in planning how national parks and other public conservation areas are run is the purpose
of a new booklet published by the New Zealand Conservation Authority.
Kerry Marshall, chairperson of the Authority said that the booklet was targeted at the general public.
“The land managed by the Department is our land. It has been set aside to protect its natural and historical and
cultural values and for our enjoyment. This guide is designed to help the public have a say on how DOC manages public
conservation land.”
Chris Carter, Minister of Conservation, welcomed the Authority’s initiative.
“This is a timely publication. DOC will shortly begin work on planning documents for Waikato, Bay of Plenty, East Coast
and Hawkes Bay. Submissions from the public are currently being sought on the revised plan for Whanganui National Park.
I urge the public to have their say and help the Department produce plans which will give clear guidance to its staff
and the public about how these special places will be managed.”
