BSA decision regarding Bloody Mary is ludicrous
Today’s announcement from the Broadcasting Standards Authority that it will not be upholding any of the 35 complaints that it received about the Bloody Mary episode of South Park is ludicrous.
“This decision shows just how out of touch with reality the Broadcasting Standards Authority really is” says Family Life International media spokesperson; Brendan Malone.
“More complaints were laid about Bloody Mary than about any other program since the BSA was created in 1989 and yet they still fail to see the significance of such an occurrence.”
“This show depicted a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary spraying menstrual blood from her genital region and the BSA has the gall to say that such a depiction falls within the bounds of what constitutes good taste and decency.”
“This decision reeks of incompetence and bigotry against the Christian faith.”
“If this show had depicted Allah or the Maori Queen in such an obscene manner there is no way that it would have even made it to air in New Zealand.”
“It’s about time that the broadcasting standards in this country were reviewed, because based on this decision it seems that anything can be broadcast as long as you can find an audience to watch it” says Mr Malone.
