Action Meeting: Stop the 90 Day Bill
Press release: Unions Wellington
Unions are stepping up the campaign against National MP Wayne Mapp's plan to set up a 90 days 'probationary' period for all new employees.
National's Bill (currently before a select committee) would mean no right of appeal against unfair dismissal in the first 90 days, and gives the boss the right to sack workers for any reason - no basis for the decision would be needed. They might just take a dislike to a worker one morning, or dismiss workers asking for a pay increase, checking their rights or joining a union.
