New Zealand Defence Force Flies Generator To Niue

A Hercules C130 will fly a new generator to Niue. The C130 has returned from a hectic schedule of operational taskings in support of the Combined Joint Task Force in Timor Leste. It is expected to depart Whenuapai as soon as the equipment is delivered and packed for the flight.

The flight will go direct to Niue, taking 4 ½ hours.

NZAID, the government's aid and development agency, has coordinated the supply of the replacement generator. Three New Zealand-based technicians will complete the installation of the generator, control panel and switch-board and repair the existing smoke-damaged generator.

The flight will carry approximately five tonne of cabling which is needed to complete the installation.

Additional equipment may need to be carried to facilitate the unloading and transport of the generator once it arrives in Niue. These arrangements are currently being finalised.
