CYFS Rejects Dominion-Post Article

To be attributed to Jo Mika-Thomas, General Manager – People and Capability, Child, Youth and Family:

To refute the article published in the Dominion Post on Monday, 8 May 2006 entitled “Porn inquiry nets 10 CYF staff”:

During the Police Operation Insight, the Department became aware of an email circulating amongst some staff that was NOT pornographic in nature but was offensive and unacceptable.

The email had no sexual content whatsoever.

The Department identified 12 staff who were immediately involved and investigated each of them. As a result 10 of the 12 were disciplined appropriate to their involvement as follows:

2 final written warnings 5 written warnings 1 verbal warning 2 informal warnings

It is important to note that whilst this came about as a result of Police Operation Insight - those staff we investigated and disciplined for breach of the code of conduct, were not involved in accessing or distributing pornographic material.
