Auckland airport fire-fighters on strike
Fire-fighters at Auckland International Airport have just walked off the job in a dispute over pay.
Sixty-two fire-fighters are on strike for two hours and are protesting outside the international terminal.
Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union national secretary Andrew Little said that the workers had been negotiating with the company since February and were frustrated by a lack of progress.
“Wages, particularly for senior fire-fighters, have been severely eroded in recent years, and they want this issue redressed,” he said.
“They hope that by taking a short strike today they can send a clear signal to this highly profitable company that this issue needs to be taken seriously.”
