New Zealand First MP in TVNZ Complaint Row
New Zealand First MP Pita Paraone also known as Peter Brown has been embroiled in a complaint against TVNZ over cultural insensitivity. TVNZ were advised on the 4th April that they were not permitted to film certain items once owned by Ngapuhi chief Hone Heke.
TVNZ had previously given a written undertaking that they would comply, and would not film items. New Zealand first MP Paraone also known as Peter Brown then intervened and gave permission for the items to be filmed, contrary to the wishes of the organiser and Hone Heke, descendant, David Rankin.
The filming of the items has led to a complaint being lodged with TVNZ. Mr Rankin expects that New Zealand First MP Pita Paraone or Peter Brown will be interviewed over his involvement in encouraging TVNZ to breach its own agreement with Mr Rankin and his Hapu.
