Parliamentary Debates Live On The Internet

Radio New Zealand has announced a new service to live stream Parliamentary debates on its website www.radionz.co.nz The broadcasts, simulcast with live coverage on Radio New Zealand’s AM network, are now available whenever the House is sitting.

The initiative follows agreement with the Clerk of the House securing approval for the public service broadcaster to live stream the proceedings of the New Zealand Parliament.

Announcing the new service, the Chairman of the Radio New Zealand Board of Governors, Brian Corban, emphasised the importance of public service broadcasting in the democratic process:

“Parliament is the core of our democracy and freedom of thought and expression are the foundations of our democratic society. Radio New Zealand, as the voice of our nation, is proud to play a vital role in guaranteeing and exercising those freedoms for all New Zealanders. “

“Live streaming via the internet enables Radio New Zealand to reach completely new audiences and it provides a wonderful opportunity for New Zealanders living or travelling overseas to keep in touch with what is happening back home. “

Live streaming of Parliament can be accessed through the Radio New Zealand website www.radionz.co.nz
