Comments cast doubt on legitimacy of C4 apology

PRESS RELEASE

A press release from Family Life International, New Zealand

Thursday 23rd March, 2006

Rick Friesen's comments cast doubt on the legitimacy of C4 apology

Today's public statement from C4 Television's Rick Friesen's that C4 will not be upholding any official complaints about the Bloody Mary episode of South Park cast serious doubts on the sincerity of C4's apology for screening the episode.

If C4 are truly sorry then why are they not prepared to take responsibility and be accountable for their actions?

Until CanWest are actually prepared to take responsibility for their actions by upholding formal complaints about Bloody Mary, then today's apology appears to be nothing more than a contrived PR stunt.

We encourage all kiwis who had their complaints rejected by C4 to pursue the process of forwarding them to the Broadcasting Standards Authority.

Many New Zealanders were outraged by this show, CanWest knows it, and today's public "apology" shows that they are seriously concerned about the public backlash to their actions.
