Partnership To Prevent Child Abuse In Fiji
Teenagers play a key role in educating children and lifting awareness of child abuse prevention in Fiji, with the support of Save the Children. Two people involved in these programmes are in Wellington this week.
Peter Chung and Lynette Petueli from Save the Children Fiji are attending the 10th Australasian Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect currently being held at the Michael Fowler Centre finishing on Thursday 16 February.
Peter Chung has been involved in Save the Children programmes as a participant himself and is now working for them in Fiji. He will be presenting a paper on The Discipline and Guidance of Children in Fiji at the conference. Chung's research shows that violence against children is an ongoing problem in Fiji.
Lynette Petueli runs education programmes on the Child Rights convention for young people and training them to be peer educators.
