Charity motorcycle rides raises $11,000 for new Rescue Helicopter flying suits

Today over 1,200 bikes took to Auckland’s motorway to raise $11,000 for new flame-proof flying suits for the Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter crew in the 11th Annual Ulysses Charity Motorcycle Ride.

“The bike turnout and support was incredible, and Ulysses did an amazing job at organising the event” said Westpac Rescue Helicopter Communications Manager Kelle Taylor.

The ride went for nearly 40km from the New Zealand Bloodstock Centre in Papakura to the AUT Akoranga Campus on the North Shore. Ulysses Charity Motorcycle event organiser Bob Leeper said he was proud of all bike enthusiasts that took to the road to show their support for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

“The guys on the Westpac Rescue Helicopter do an amazing job and this is just one way we can show them that we appreciate all their hard work” said Mr Leeper.

Over the last 11 years the Auckland branch of the Ulysses Motorcycle Club has raised over $100,000 for the helicopter. In 2005, $11,000 was raised for a laptop computer with a state of the art GPS moving map system.
