Working party on state sector superannuation great news
The PSA warmly welcomes the announcement today by the State Services Minister Annette King that she has set up a working party to consider options for extending the state sector retirement savings scheme.
PSA national secretary Brenda Pilott said the announcement was great news and that the PSA has for some time advocated that the scheme be extended.
“The scheme has been most successful and many of our members working in the public service have seized the opportunity to join.
“On behalf of our members working in the health sector and crown-owned enterprises, we have been, as a matter of priority, urging the government to include these sectors in the scheme.
“Our members working in those sectors have certainly been letting us know that they believe it is unfair they are not eligible to join”.
Brenda Pilott said retirement savings were essential for people to live comfortably once they retire.
“The PSA is looking forward to being involved with the working party”.
