Dr. Philip Nitschke plans opposed

Tuesday 29th November, 2005

Family Life International opposes the plans of Australia's Dr Death,Australia's Dr Death

The news that Australia's Dr. Death, Dr. Philip Nitschke, plans to establish his suicide pill operations in New Zealand, due to Australia's new laws which will prohibit his dangerous activities, is disappointing and alarming.

Dr Nitschke takes pride in his reputation as Australia's Dr Death and his organisation actively encourages and assists desperate and vulnerable people to end their lives. Outspoken euthanasia activist Leslie Martin has even publicly distanced herself from Dr Nietschke and his organisation.

Earlier this year the NZ Ministry of Health announced plans to widen the scope of its suicide prevention strategies. It would seem totally counterproductive to allow Dr Nitschke, who actively encourages and promotes suicide, to operate in New Zealand.

How can we claim that we are concerned with, and actively working to discourage suicide in New Zealand when we are prepared to allow a known euthanasia campaigner to explicitly promote suicide techniques in our country?

Dr Nitschke's plans to move his suicide operation to New Zealand shows that our country is viewed as a soft touch by those promoting unsound and dangerously liberal ideologies.

Having Dr Nitschke actively working in New Zealand will simply further the sinister ideology that only terminal, elderly, or disabled patients who take their own lives are acting with dignity, while those who choose to courageously live their life till its final moment are not.

The Australian Government is to be commended for the practical steps it has taken to protect its citizens from Dr Nitschke's dangerous ideologies and activities, it is disappointing that he now plans to continue his macabre practises in our country.
