MEDIA RELEASE – for immediate use

Law Commission

New Zealand Law Society President Chris Darlow welcomes the recommendation that Sir Geoffrey Palmer be appointed President of the Law Commission, as announced today by the Minister responsible for the Law Commission, Mark Burton.

“The Law Society has had many dealings with Sir Geoffrey over the years. We have valued his advice on constitutional and law reform matters and we see him as ideally suited to this position.

“Should the Minister’s recommendation be accepted, we look forward to maintaining contact with Sir Geoffrey as he seeks to enhance the Commission’s vital, though perhaps under-valued, role in law reform.”
