Defence Force Commemorations for Armistice Day
Across the country New Zealand Defence Force personnel will be involved in a series of commemorative services and wreath laying ceremonies marking the 87th anniversary of the Signing of the Armistice, on Friday 11 November.
In Wellington a Tri-service vigil will be mounted from dawn to dusk at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior. Commencing at 6.00am, sailors, soldiers, airmen and warriors will stand vigil over the Tomb until 8.00pm, being relieved at 15 minute intervals.
Wellington will also hold a wreath-laying ceremony at 10.00am at the National War Memorial, Wellington with a tri-service catafalque guard providing ceremonial support. Their Excellencies, the Governor General, The Honourable Dame Silvia Cartwright, PCNZM, DBE and Mr Peter Cartwright will attend the ceremony.
In Auckland a wreath laying ceremony will be held in the World War I Sanctuary located inside the Auckland War Memorial Museum. Group Captain K.R Short, RNZAF, will represent the Chief of Defence Force at the service.
