"A good outcome for the Internet in New Zealand," is the comment of InternetNZ President Colin Jackson, in response to the news that Hon David Cunliffe (Labour – New Lynn) has been reappointed to the Communications and Information Technology portfolios in the new Labour-led Government.
"InternetNZ has enjoyed a strong working relationship with the Minister in his previous role outside Cabinet. Mr Cunliffe's promotion to the Cabinet will ensure the concerns of the industry, and of Internet users, are heard at the highest levels of government," said Colin Jackson.
InternetNZ Executive Director Keith Davidson echoed Colin Jackson’s comments.
"Good progress has been made in developing the Digital Strategy, which will make a significant impact to broadband access in smaller centres around New Zealand through the Broadband Challenge. Additionally, important work is under way in the review of the Telecommunications Act, which we believe will substantially improve the regulatory framework applying to the telecommunications industry once implemented," said Keith Davidson.
"We are pleased that this appointment allows for continuity, and look forward to working with the Minister to continue to improve access to the Internet for all New Zealanders during the coming parliamentary term," Mr Davidson said.
"We offer our congratulations to David Cunliffe, and wish him well in his work," concluded Colin Jackson and Keith Davidson.
