Student Creativity Spreads Safer Roads Message
Four talented students have had their art works selected as award winning entries in the AA Safer Roads Design-a-Poster
Competition.
Earlier this year the AA asked intermediate and secondary students to spread the road safety message by designing an
informative poster based around the aims of the AA Safer Roads Project.
Nearly 150 entries poured in from students all over New Zealand and the winning entries were judged on how well students
interpreted the Safer Roads message.
Year 11 student Hugh Mitton from Christchurch was picked as the winner of the Senior category, and Rita Mouchi, also in
Year 11 from Auckland, was selected as Senior runner up.
The winner of the Intermediate category was Sharn Aoake, in Year 10 at Matamata College, and Junior category winner
Shelby Tuinman-Bell is a Year 7 student from Queenstown.
“We had a great response from students all over New Zealand. Most entrants really understood the aims of the AA Safer
Roads Project and communicated the message in a way that would appeal to their peers,” says Greg Hunting, General
Manager, AA Corporate Communications.
The winners will be presented with their certificates and prizes at their school or local AA Centre. Prizes include art
packs, Vodafone products, and free AA Membership and AA Defensive Driving Courses.
The AA Safer Roads Project is a nationwide, community-based project aimed at having Safer Drivers in Safer Cars on Safer
Roads.
