Recording Industry Association of New Zealand 2005 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards
The board and management of RIANZ were very pleased with the success of the 2005 Vodafone New Music Awards held at the
Aotea Centre – THE EDGE® on Wednesday October 5th.
We were however very disappointed at the overt political commentary from some of the show’s presenters. We wish to make
it clear these comments were not condoned by the RIANZ board and the views expressed were those of the individual
presenters and not those of RIANZ. We are working with the show’s producers to ensure that this politicisation of our
premiere event will not happen again.
We warmly welcome all sides of the political spectrum to join us in celebrating the success of New Zealand music. We
encourage their support for the industry and their attendance at the Tuis. We certainly do not expect any of our guests
to be treated in the way Dr Brash was on Wednesday night. RIANZ has apologised unreservedly to Dr Brash and thanked him
for his composure in the circumstances.
