Preliminary results announced for 2005 GENERAL ELECTION

The preliminary results as at midnight for the 2005 General Election have been released by the Chief Electoral Office.

Voter turnout is estimated to be 80% of those enrolled as at 5pm 16 September. About 215,000 more voters turned out than in 2002. Special declaration votes to be counted (including votes coming back from overseas) are estimated at 218,000 (9.6% of total votes).
