Labour Protects Predators
Labour Protects Predators
“Protecting a predator is as idiotic a policy as anything else done by this lousy government,” says Peter Cresswell, Libertarianz Environment Spokesman. “Labour’s conservation policy declaration that great white sharks should be protected is to take Labour’s dangerous 'Let-Them-Out Policy' on probation for convicted killers, and to reapply it in the area of conservation. The result will be as tragic, and the policy is as stupid.”
Labour’s Chris Carter says the great white shark, responsible for a series of fatal attacks in Australian waters in recent years, requires protection because of its so-called ‘intrinsic value.’ “This is utter nonsense,” says Cresswell. “Nonsense on stilts.”
Cresswell says that Carter clearly misunderstands the notion of value. “There is no such thing as ‘intrinsic value,” says Cresswell. “Value inheres only in things that are actually valuable to someone, for something—there is no inherent value in something as is, where is: the value is given by us, by human beings. So when a politician talks about ‘intrinsic values,’ you may be sure that what he is saying is that ‘I value this, and I intend to use the machinery of government and your tax dollars to protect it--however dopy and destructive that may be.’”
"The anti-concept of 'intrinsic values' is anti-human life," says Cresswell. "I hope that no human life has to pay the price for Carter's stupidity."
