2.8 Million Easyvote Packs Delivered From Tomorrow
2.8 million EasyVote information packs from the Chief Electoral Office will make their way into people's letterboxes starting tomorrow (Thursday 8 September).
"The EasyVote pack contains information that aims to make it as easy as possible for people to vote at this year's election," says David Henry, Chief Electoral Officer.
"Anyone who was enrolled by 17 August will get a pack that contains an EasyVote card with their individual enrolment details printed on it. People should take their EasyVote card with them when they go to vote, it will make the whole process much easier," says Mr Henry.
People can vote without their card but it will take longer.
Voters who enrolled after 17 August will receive an EasyVote information pack that includes a letter (instead of a card) to take with them when voting. The letter confirms that they need to cast a special declaration vote.
The EasyVote information pack also contains a list of polling places and advance voting facilities, candidate names, party lists and an explanation of MMP.
"On election day, we are encouraging people to vote at one of the polling places listed in their pack. This will make the process faster for the majority of voters.
"Voters who are going to be outside their electorate on Election Day should consider voting in advance and take their EasyVote card with them," says Mr Henry.
Details of advance voting facilities are available from www.elections.org.nz, 0800 36 76 56 or Returning Officers.
