TEAR Fund New Zealand launches Hurricane Katrina relief appeal

TEAR Fund New Zealand, through its American partner World Relief, is responding to the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina.

Hundreds have been confirmed killed by the hurricane, which swept across the Florida panhandle: Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Thousands more are without adequate shelter, food or water.

"Those affected most severely by this disaster are the desperately poor and homeless, who had no means of evacuating the city," says Stephen Tollestrup, TEAR Fund's Executive Director.

TEAR Fund, through partner World Relief, is responding to poor communities devastated by Katrina by offering immediate assistance, including the distribution of food, water, tarpaulins and other emergency relief supplies.

TEAR Fund are also equipping churches across the region to shelter and feed the homeless.

To give to TEAR Fund's Hurricane Katrina relief effort, you can make a secure online donation on their website: www.tearfund.org.nz
