National to send out a million 'Taxathon' pamphlets

The National Party is putting tax back on the election agenda over the next week with the delivery of nearly a million 'Taxathon' pamphlets to mailboxes throughout the country.

"This election is all about high-tax Labour penalising middle New Zealand and wasting money on their pet projects - or a responsible National Government, which will lower taxes to provide the right incentives and opportunities for people to work hard and get ahead," says National Party Campaign Manager Steven Joyce.

Like National's successful billboard campaign, funding for the brochures has come from the growing number of supporters who want a change in Government.

"The taxpayer hasn't spent a cent on these pamphlets or on any of our Party Vote campaign material, which is just as well - since the 'Clark/Cullen Taxathon' pamphlet shows they're paying for everything else, including a lot of Labour's re-election material.

"The pamphlet sets out to show, in humorous terms with an update on the old 'Telethon' concept, just how much extra tax Labour has collected, and includes lists of Government funding embarrassments under headlines like, 'The Prime Moneywaster knows no end of creative ways to spend your kind donations'.

"National knows taxpayers are suffering from 'donor fatigue' and we're making sure mainstream New Zealanders know there is a way to change that at this election," says Mr Joyce.
