Auckland University Islamic Society (AUIS) members today expressed their horror at London's transport bombing by emphatically rejecting the act performed as that of terrorists who in no way represent the religion of Islam.
Although it may be discovered that the perpetrators of this heinous crime claim they are performing it in the name of Islam it is clear to anyone with a sound understanding of the religion that Islam in no way condones or supports the act of killing civilians. Our hearts go out to the friends and relatives of the victims among whom are Muslims which are also victims of these unspeakable acts.
The perpetrators of these acts must be brought to justice to the full extent of the law. Under Islamic teachings even when a war is being fought the lives of non-combatants such as women and children are not to be touched. It even goes to the extent of protecting the rights of the environment by protecting it from being ransacked. Therefore this particular event, where all the victims are civilians, has no basis from Islam which is known to be a religion which respects and safeguards the lives of Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
