NCWNZ Mourns Sonja Davies Passing

The National Council of Women of NZ(NCWNZ) joins with the many people who mourn the passing of Sonja Davies.

She worked with the National Council of Women on many issues, including equal pay. When she became a Member of

Parliament, Sonja Davies continued to work with NCWNZ on all aspects of equality and justice for women.

NCWNZ acknowledges the achievements Sonja Davies made in her lifetime.

She was the founder of the NZ Child Care Association; Chair of the NZ Women's Refuge Foundation; a member of the

Equal Pay Review Committee and the Equal Opportunities Tribunal.

Her work for women in the union movement was constant and her work with the peace movement was legendary.

New Zealand has lost a woman of extraordinary vision, who worked tirelessly for equality of opportunity and for human rights.
