Dr. Megan Woods to campaign for Progressives
The Progressive Party has selected Dr. Megan Woods to
campaign for party votes in the Christchurch Central
electorate in this year's election.
"Progressive candidates are campaigning for people's party vote this year as your pro-economic development and pro-free education insurance policy," deputy leader Hon. Matt Robson MP said today.
"If you support increased investment in higher education, favour the economic development of our regions and want politicians to take the tough decisions on youth binge drinking and other youth drug problems, then our candidates' message is: Party Vote Progressive".
Dr. Woods, who lives in Christchurch, is the Progressive’s Education spokesperson. She has written papers exploring New Zealand history involving Maori urbanisation, policies in housing, trade training schemes, labour market requirements, race relations, economics, and women’s affairs amongst others. Megan has also lecturered at Canterbury and Victoria universities.
Paying for her own university education and teaching students paying for their educations has made Megan particularly keen to promote the benefits of Progressive's graduate debt policy. She believes the Progressive Party's 2005 Election Policy, for the government pay-off tertiary graduates' Student Loan debt in return for graduates using their skills working in New Zealand, would encourage qualified and skilled young Kiwis to stay in New Zealand to the benefit of regional economies as well as graduates themselves.
She also believes Progressive's proposal, to cut the headline company tax rate to match Australia's rate, would be welcomed by many employers - which would propel further job-creation.
