Prime Minister Helen Clark Presents Pilots with their "Wings'

Prime Minister Helen Clark has today presented graduating pilots with their ‘Wings’ during a graduation parade at RNZAF Base Ohakea.


Pilot Officer Rod Olliff (Auckland), Pilot Officer Hayden Madsen (Napier), Pilot Officer Dan Pezaro (Wanaka), Lieutenant Ben Till (Waikato) in front of a RNZAF Kingair at RNZAF Ohakea. Today they graduated as qualified pilots after 14 months of training on the RNZAF Wings Course.

The four graduating officers, including a Naval officer, have successfully completed fourteen months on the Royal New Zealand Air Force Wings Course.


Lieutenant Ben Till leads the inspection of the parade by Prime Minister Helen Clark.


Commanding Office of the Flight Training Wing, Wing Commander Russell Kennedy says the parade marks the graduates right to wear the Pilot’s brevet.

“They should be very proud of their achievements and the standards they have reached. Each new pilot can look forward to a rewarding and demanding military flying career,” said Wing Commander Kennedy.
