Centres Report Mana From Heaven

11 May 2005

"Communications Centres Report Mana From Heaven For Comms Centre Staff"

"The longstanding concerns over lack of staffing and resourcing in Police

Communications Centres articulated by the Association on behalf of staff, have finally been recognised and staff look forward to the implementation of the recommendations made in the Independent External Review of Communications Centres released today," Police Association President, Greg O'Connor said today.

"The report comprehensively addresses staff concerns and acknowledges the
huge degree of goodwill, dedication and competence shown by staff to keep
the Centres operating under what has been shown to be extremely difficult circumstances" Mr O'Connor said.

The Police Association, in representing Communications Centre staff, will
continue to be involved in ensuring that the recommendations are implemented and any future problems addressed in a timely manner.

The Police Association congratulates the review team for their courage and competence in producing this report.

"We welcome the extra funding being provided by Government to fix the Comms Centres. We now look forward to the Budget later this month, addressing other equally pressing issues within Police, especially the frontline district emergency response, organised crime and 'P' problems" Mr O'Connor said.
