Four New Deputy Commissioners For SSC
The State Services Commissioner, Mark Prebble, today announced the appointment of four new Deputy Commissioners at the
State Services Commission (SSC).
Julie Craig, Suze Wilson, Laurence Millar and Iona Holsted will join a new senior management team at the SSC who will be
responsible for driving a challenging development programme for New Zealand's State Services and leading a refocused
organisation. The other members of the new management team are Tony Hartevelt, Deputy State Services Commissioner,
Bethia Gibson, Deputy Commissioner, Corporate Services and Phillippa Smith, Chief Legal Advisor.
Each Deputy Commissioner position has three main areas of responsibility: leading a team of functional experts,
performance management of a portfolio of Public Service chief executives, and a regional liaison role.
Mark Prebble said that the four managers bring an important breadth of experience and range of skills to the senior
roles. "The four Deputy Commissioners have between them experience in both the public and private sectors and have
proven leadership skills and relevant knowledge of different aspects of the State Services."
Julie Craig has been appointed Deputy Commissioner, Governance. She is presently the General Manager, Human Resources
and Organisation at the Department of Conservation. Previously, she has held a number of senior positions within the
Public Service, including Group Manager at the Office of Treaty Settlements and Branch Manager roles at the SSC.
Suze Wilson has been appointed Deputy Commissioner, People Capability. Suze is presently General Manager, Human
Resources at New Zealand Post. Previously she has worked as a consultant in HR issues and in senior industrial relations
roles at the Ministry of Education and with the NZ Engineering Union.
Laurence Millar has been appointed Deputy Commissioner, Information and Communication Technologies. Laurence is
presently the Director of the SSC's E-government Unit. Previously he worked as executive and strategy consultant and has
more than 30 years experience in management and consulting in the IT, financial services, government and
telecommunications sectors. He has worked in Asia Pacific, USA and Europe.
Iona Holsted has been appointed Deputy Commissioner, Development. Iona is presently a Deputy Commissioner at the SSC,
where she has held a number of other senior positions. Previously, she has worked for the Public Service Association,
with community groups and in the education sector.
"The four new Deputy Commissioners will join with the current Deputy State Services Commissioner, Tony Hartevelt, in
helping to shape the future development of New Zealand's State Services," Mark Prebble said.
