CLASSIFY "PRO-PAEDOPHILIA JOURNAL" "UNBOUND"
The Society formally applied on Wednesday to the Chief Censor, Mr Bill Hastings, for leave to have the "pro-paedophilia journal" UNBOUND that the Hon. Winston Peters tabled in parliament on Tuesday, classified (Vol. 1 No. 4 [1987). The application to Mr Hastings, Head of the Office of Film and Literature Classification, has been made under s. 13(1)(c) of the Films, Videos and Publications Classification Act 1993 ("the Act"). Based on information the Society has obtained, its application lists the publisher of UNBOUND (Vol. 1 No. 4) as Free Forum Books (San Francisco), the bookshop that was formerly owned by Auckland bookseller Mr Jim Peron at the time the journal was published (1987). Mr Eric Garris, who sold the San Francisco bookshop to Mr Peron in 1985, obtained photocopies of pages of the journal that the Society has submitted for classification, at the time it was apparently readily available to the public in Mr Peron’s bookshop along with the "pro-paedophile journal" NAMBLA (North American Man Boy Love Association). Mr Garris says he confronted Mr Peron at the time about the availability of UNBOUND in Peron’s shop, having first copied pages from it that concerned him, as evidence. He says he objected to its pro-paedophilia content and sought clarification from Mr Peron as to who published it. He says that Mr Peron confirmed that Free Forum Books published it. The issue (Vol. 1 No. 4) Garris raised concerns about, contained an essay by Mr Peron: "Abused: One Boys Story" and a report expressing disgust at how the San Francisco police had raided Peron’s bookshop that year and seized copies of UNBOUND and other pro-paedophia publications in the course of an on-going investigation into David Simons (a part-time employee of Mr Peron’s, who was later arrested, convicted and jailed for 16 years for committing sex-offences against children).
News reports today state that Mr Peron denies being editor of Unbound and states an article written by him - Abused: One Boy's Story - detailing his abusive experiences as a boy and later relationships with men as an adolescent, appeared in the magazine [UNBOUND] without his knowledge. Peron said there was no explicit sexual content in the piece, and he denied that he was referring to paedophiles when using the term "boylover". Peron said the story he wrote was used without his permission. He said Unbound was published by another person who rented a back office from his former bookstore. (Stuff News and The Dominon Post 31/3/05)
UNBOUND, a "pro-paedophilia journal" as it has been described in at least one online bibliography, should be classified "objectionable". S. 3(2) of the Act states that a publication that "tends to promote or support the exploitation of children or young persons, or both, for sexual purposes" must be classified "objectionable" simpliciter. Parliament has recently strengthened the principle Act by amending it to ensure that suppliers of pro-paedophilia journals, images etc. (via the internet etc.) are subject to much harsher penalties.
Society president Mr Mike Petrus says: "The vast majority of New Zealanders, including all our members, support harsher penalties and stricter enforcement with respect to all "objectionable" publications that "tend to promote and support" activities set out in s. 3(2) of the Act. (including paedophilia, necrophilia, sex acts involving human excrement and urine, and bestiality etc.)."

Application Under s. 13(1)(c) of the Films, Videos
and Publications Classification Act 1993 ("the Act")
With respect to:
UNBOUND - Volume 1 No. 4 (1987)
Edited by Mr Jim Peron
Published by Free Forum Books
(Owned and managed by Mr Peron 1985-1990)
Dear Mr Hastings
The Society executive wishes to submit to your Office the publication UNBOUND Volume 1 No. 4 for classification under s. 13(1)(c) of the Films, Videos and Publications Classification Act 1993 ("the Act"). This "paedophile journal" as it is described in at least one online bibliography, was tabled in the House by the Hon. Winston Peters, Leader of the NZ First Party, on Tuesday afternoon 29 March 2005 and is described by him as "contain[ing] articles about men and boys having sex, as well as pictures of naked boys". The Dominion Post (30 March 2005) reports: "It contains photos of naked children and descriptions of sex between men and boys".
UNBOUND Vol. 1 No. 4 was tabled together with a copy of an e-mail communication from Dr Frits Bernard - a Rotterdam-based paedophile advocate - who confirms "the editor of UNBOUND was Jim Peron" (he also notes that the French version has been published in Brussels). Dr Bernard has had a number of his own articles published in UNBOUND (Vol. 1, issue 2, no year (1987), pp. 9-15; Vol. 2, issue 5, no year (1988), pp. 22-30; Vol. 2, no. 1, no year (1989), pp. 1-4) and therefore we assume he is more than qualified to state who the publisher of Vol. 1 No. 4 is.
See: http://www.ipce.info/booksreborn/bernard/publications.htm
Mr Peters confirmed to the House that the paedophile journal UNBOUND Vol. 1 No. 4 "sets out page after page of evidence in respect of this man’s [Peron’s] beliefs and [sexual] proclivities." Mr Jim Peron, an Auckland bookseller who currently owns and manages Aristotle’s Bookshop and formally owned and managed a bookstore in San Francisco - Free Forum Books, has been described in the New Zealand media as a "gay" man who lives with his homosexual "partner". He is Executive Director of the NZ Institute for Liberal Values.
Also tabled by Mr Peters was a statement from Mr Eric Garris, the previous owner of the San Francisco Bookstore bookstore (purchased by Mr Peron from him in 1985), making it clear that (1) Free Forum Books published UNBOUND and (2) Mr Peron advanced the cause of NAMBLA - the North American Boy Love Association - while managing the bookshop, by allowing its members to meet regularly at his premises in which he stocked and sold paedophile promoting journals. The Dominion Post (30/3/05) reports Mr Garris stating: "Jim was an ardent supporter of Nambla and gave it a home at the bookstore after I sold it to him. I … would have not sold him the bookstore if I had known he would use it to promote Nambla." (The bookshop was formerly known as Libertarian Books and Publications and is located at 1800 Market Street, San Francisco).
NAMBLA as you will know promotes, supports and advocates paedophilia including intergenerational sex between adults and children.
UNBOUND Volume 1 No 4 which does not have an ISBN number according to Dr Bernard was published in late 1987 by Free Forums Books under Jim Peron’s ownership and management. This periodical/journal (published between 1987 - 1989) endorses, advocates and celebrates ‘man/boy love’ (paedophilia), and sees it as a legitimate and normal part of life that is wrongfully illegal. Volume 1 No 4 which was available in Mr Peron’s bookshop in San Francisco at the time Mr Garris, the shop’s former owner, made copies of some of its pages, contains a number of articles that tend to promote and support the view that ‘man/boy love’ should be expressed sexually and should be made lawful. Peron is reported by GayNZ.com as saying that he does not endorse the contents of "Unbound", and maintains it was never sold in his store - Free Forum Books. When confronted recently with the photocopied pages obtained by Eric Garris, Peron said he had never seen the publication. However when confronted by Eric Garris in the 1980’s with the same pages from Volume 1 No. 4, and asked directly "is this your publication?" Peron replied "yes, we print it out the back".

Justin Raimondo, partner of the former bookshop owner says Free Forum Books began publishing an "in-house paedophile journal after Jim Peron assumed ownership and management" in 1985. Peron sold the shop in 1990.

The contents of UNBOUND Volume 1 No 4 include:
"Police Attack Unbound Headquarters" P. 1 [An account
expressing indignation at a police raid on Mr Peron’s shop
- Free Forum books - described as "Unbound Headquarters" in
which a number of paedophile promoting publications were
seized including issues of NAMBLA and UNBOUND. Peron is
quoted as expressing indignance over these particular
publications being seized. One of his part-time employees
David Simons was later convicted on three charges involving
sexual molestation of minors].
"What Do You Say to a Naked Youth?" P. 3. [Extracts were
quoted on Prime Television News by Paul Holmes 24/3/05].
"Camp Hope Part IV" P. 13
"Abused: One Boy’s Story" P. 21
[Written by Jim Peron]
"Affectionate Shepheard" p. 26
"The Garland Weaver" P. 27
"Wilhelm von Gloeden" P. 29
In an essay
recounting his associations with manboy lovers Peron
states:
Throughout the gay community, pompous, politically-correct fools, some elected, spout off about "abusing" children. They disassociate themselves from boylovers. They repudiate them. They say, "there is no place in the human rights movement for these people." Gay politicians throw boylovers to the lions every chance they get. All, they say, to prevent children from being abused.
GayNZ.Com a political lobby group within the New Zealand "gay" community, has disassociated itself from boylovers, repudiating "the highly discredited paedophile organisation NAMBLA" in its attack on the Living Word videos (see Appendix I). One of these videos "AIDS: What you haven’t been told" alludes to the involvement of NAMBLA in the North American Gay Rights Movement. The video transcript (see Appendix II) states:
NAMBLA AFFIRMS THAT SEXUAL INTIMACY CAN BE AN APPROPRIATE EXPRESSION OF THE LOVING RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PARENT AND CHILD, BETWEEN SIBLINGS, AND BETWEEN ADULT FRIENDS OF YOUNG CHILDREN' … sexual intimacy can be an appropriate expression of the loving relationship between parent and child, between siblings, and between adult friends of young children.
As a prominent members of the "gay" community both you and your deputy Ms Nicola McCully, will be in an excellent position to assess the content of this paedophile journal UNBOUND. You will be aware of the very strong link between paedophilia and homosexual lifestyle and will know how best to protect the public from those who actively proselytise for paedophilia life-style. At least one of the homosexual contributors to UNBOUND Vol. 1 No. 4, Louis Colantuono, is a convicted paedophile, twice-jailed for sexual offences with boys, as Paul Holmes reported on Prime TV News.
As the former Deputy President of the Film and Literature Board of Review that was responsible for banning the Living Word videos, you will understand how important it is that the true facts on NAMBLA, its promoters, and their publications, are to censorship issues. Given that you were the one responsible for writing the Board’s decision that banned the two Living Word videos (later overturned on an appeal by the distributor to the Court of Appeal), you will understand how important it is for the distributor of a publication that has been submitted for classification, to have the opportunity to defend it against the invective and vitriol levelled at its contents by a tiny vociferous minority of a certain proclaimed "sexual orientation".
While Jim Peron’s contribution was written some time ago (1987), the two part articles he had published in 2003 - "The Claptrap Over Child Porn" - express the same indignation and utter disdain for censorship officials who try and curtail the activities of paedophiles.

S. 3(2) of the FVPC Act 1993 makes it clear that any publication that tends to promote or support paedophilia must be classified "objectionable". Any advocacy of views that suggest the exploitation of young persons or children for sexual purposes is acceptable, means that the publication is constituted "objectionable" simpliciter.
The Society urges the Classification Office to seek submissions from the publisher of the paedophile journal UNBOUND Vol. 1 No. 4 - Mr Jim Peron - outlining his case to the New Zealand public for why this journal should not be classified objectionable.
To obtain a copy your Office can contact the Clerk of the House, as the publication was tabled, as noted, by the Hon. Winston Peters on Tuesday.
If you choose to not grant our Society leave under s. 13(1)(c) we request that you use your powers under s. 13 (3) of the Act to direct the Secretary of Internal Affairs, Mr Christopher Blake, to "take all reasonable steps to obtain a copy of the publication and submit it to the Classification Office" along with all other issues of Mr Peron’s "UNBOUND" paedophile journal that may be available in New Zealand. Copies of this journal were brandished by Mr Paul Holmes on Prime Tine News on Tuesday night (29 March 2005).
Finally, as a non-profit community organisation with a special interest and track-record in seeking to uphold the application of the law in matters of censorship, we would request that our application fee applicable under s. 13(1)(c), be waived as it is in the public interest for the publication UNBOUND Vol. 1 No. 4 to be classified as soon as possible. Material from UNBOUND including Jim Peron’s essay on his experience of paedophilia ("Abused: One Boy’s Story") has been broadcast by Prime Television (Holmes Show).
We look forward to your response to this application for classification.

AIDS: WHAT YOU HAVEN’T BEEN TOLD (Video)
Review by Jay Bennie, "ex-publisher and founding editor of Express newspaper, and gay activist and researcher" Callum Bennachie.
In a section titled "Sexual Deviates Unite" the highly discredited paedophile organisation NAMBLA (North American Man Boy Love Association) is represented as an integral and influential part of the gay community and gay politics. Grainy slow motion images of tiny children being carried on their fathers' shoulders at gay pride marches are accompanied by sinister "Hammer Horror" style music while the narration discusses the inclusion of gay issues in school sexuality education material.
