Candidate Follows Family Tradition

At a selection meeting held in Palmerston yesterday, Richard Prosser was unanimously endorsed as the Democrats for social credit candidate for the Otago electorate. Richard, aged 38, describes himself as a second-generation social crediter, his father having worked for the party from the middle 1970s to the late 1980s

After being involved in a number of fields, including design engineering and farm machinery, Richard completed a course in winemaking and viticulture in 2001 and for the past four years has been employed as an assistant winemaker in Alexandra. He also writes a monthly column for the national current affairs magazine ‘Investigate’.

Richard says the reason he ‘put his hand up’ for nomination was because “For the past twenty years New Zealand has been used as a laboratory for economic experimentation and social engineering, while our culture, sense of nationhood, and basic democratic freedoms have been whittled away, and while our country has been sold out from under us.’

“I am no longer prepared to simply sit and watch.”

Otago has been selected by the Democrats for social credit as one of seven key electorates to receive special attention and promotion during this year’s election campaign.
