Prince of Wales returns to New Zealand

The Prince of Wales arrived at Dunedin this evening at 7.30 pm and was met by Commander D.G. Jensen, RNZNVR, representing Her Excellency the Governor-General.

On Sunday His Royal Highness will attend a Service at the Cathedral of St Paul, Dunedin. He will then visit the Royal Albatross Centre at Taiaroa Head, and the nearby Yellow Eyed Penguin Conservation Reserve.

On Monday the Prince of Wales will visit a Merino sheep station near Alexandra. Afterwards he will fly to Wellington. At 5 pm that day the Governor-General, Dame Silvia Cartwright, will formally welcome the Prince of Wales at Government House, Wellington. The ceremony will take place on the main lawn at Government House. In case of bad weather, the welcome will take place inside the House. The welcome will be followed by a Reception.

Tuesday will see a wreath-laying by the Prince of Wales at the National War Memorial. This will be followed by the launch of New Zealand Urban Design Protocol at the Civic Centre. The Prince will later visit Te Omanga Hospice, Lower Hutt. At 8 pm that evening he will attend a dinner at Government House.

On Wednesday the Prince will fly to Auckland. He will meet RNZAF personnel and their families, and other Defence Force representatives, at the RNZAF Base Whenuapai. From 12 noon till 3 pm there will be a function of the Prince's Trust at the Pontoon, 11 Westhaven Drive, Westhaven. The Prince will later visit the "Toi Maori: The Eternal Thread" exhibition at the Auckland War Memorial Museum. Later in the day he will attend a reception at the Aotea Centre hosted by the Prime Minister, the Rt Hon Helen Clark, and the Mayor of Auckland, His Worship Dick Hubbard. From 8 to 9.10 pm the Prince of Wales will attend the play "Niu Sila" at the Maidment Theatre, as part of the Auckland Festival AK05.

On Thursday the Prince of Wales will visit the Mountain View Primary School, Mangere, then at 12.30 pm will open the Potter's Childrens' Garden at the Auckland Regional Botanic Gardens, Manurewa, in the company of the Governor-General. At 2 pm that afternoon he will be farewelled by the Governor-General from Auckland International Airport for Fiji.

More details of the Prince's itinerary are available from the major local newspapers the day before the Prince's arrival in each centre. Given the shortness of notice it is recommended that those wishing to see the Prince contact their local radio stations or newspapers for details.
