Major Art Fundraiser for Christchurch’s Family Help Trust

More than 60 artists from across the country have contributed artworks to Art on Riccarton, this years major art auction fundraiser for The Family Help Trust.

With New Zealand having one of the world’s highest rates of children dying at the hands of violent parents, family members or caregivers as well as police statistics, which have this week revealed that violence in the family is on the increase, support for this worthy and successful cause could not be more timely.

FHT fundraising manager, Jo Dearsley, says the Trust relies wholly on the generosity of local businesses, individuals and fundraiser like this.

“The Family Help Trust provides services for at risk children in high risk families. We work with families while the children are young (preferably even before they are born) to give parents options so they can choose different and better ways to raise their children. That’s the key to our success in breaking the cycle of dysfunction,” she says.

“We rely on fundraising to make sure we can continue to keep our children safe and there’s an excellent chance that they will in turn provide the same loving and nurturing environment for their children.”

Art on Riccarton will present works by controversial, well-known and emerging artists with something for every budget. Robyn Kilty, Sharon Schwalger, Philip Beadle and Julia de Hoed are just a few of the featured artists. A percentage of the works sold will be donated by the artists to The Family Help Trust.

Art on Riccarton is at Riccarton Park Raceway, Racecourse Road, Saturday 19th March from 5-8pm.
