Union welcomes Nats’ U-turn on apprenticeships
The National Party’s call for more trade training is welcome news, says the country’s largest union.
“We are delighted to hear Bill English today publicly support the provision of public funding for trade apprenticeships,” said Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union national secretary Andrew Little.
“Mr English was a member of the National government that scrapped our tried-and-true apprenticeship system, despite warnings that it would lead to a skills crisis.
“As the union that lobbied to revive
apprenticeships, we are thrilled to know that at least he in
the National caucus has seen the error of his ways and will
commit to a publicly-funded apprenticeship
system.”
