Public Health's Not A Charity
Will Cherie Blair Cross Our Picket Line?
Citizens Against Privatisation will protest the GALA CHARITY DINNER for Starship Childrens Hospital at 5.45pm Monday 7 February , at the SKYCITY Auckland Convention Centre, 88 Federal St.
CAP spokesman Meredydd Barrar said today:
"Since the massive onslaught on the Public Health system by Helen Clark, as Minister of Health of the Lange Labour Government, we have seen an unbroken history of governments piling up the wreckage."
"And having thoroughly damaged the health system, now we see craven wretches like Cherie Blair, Helen Clark, Don Brash and other dignatories further serving their free market masters by attending this event. Where the wealthy will pose as ultra-generous to the lack of health funding created to reduce their own taxes."
"The capitalists live off our backs - we certainly don't need to thank them for donating to what is a basic public service. If they think that ordinary folk can be convinced that essential social services like childrens' hospitals and public health in general are charities that exist thanks to the generosity of the rich, they are badly mistaken. The people are well aware of the effects of the free market on the community, and this protest is one of many to show them we have had enough!"
"The arrogance of the rich is no more grossly revealed than in their self-promotion as philanthropists. This election year sees a phoney debate as to whether corporate taxes should be reduced or not. Working people know what IS urgently needed - PUBLIC HEALTH'S NOT A CHARITY - TAX THE RICH."
